Between faith and profession

September 22, 2010

Learning event with Rick James, INTRAC

Wednesday 22 September 15.30 until Thursday 23 September 15.30.

Imagine. You work for a faith based development organisation in the Netherlands. You partner with organisations in the South with whom you presumably share the same values and morals. You contact your partner organisation in Uruzgan, to discuss their security policy. And your partner responds: ‘God will take care’. How do you respond? Or say your partner has just developed a new staff policy as part of their professionalization process, and then the local bishop overrules this process and places his nephew in the organisation. Can you say something? How do you deal with such issues, both professionally and personally?

In a 24 hour session, PSO, in close cooperation with Mensen met een Missie and INTRAC, will explore the specific characteristics of working with faith-based organisations (FBO’s) and within faith-based networks. The focus will be on organisational development (OD): How do we handle the specific characteristics of FBO’s? What specific risks and opportunities are involved in OD with faith-based organisations? What dilemma’s do we meet in our personal encounter with FBO’s and how should we deal with them?

Program

The learning event is question-driven: the content will be closely linked to your own experiences and cases. Furthermore, we will capitalize on what has been shared and presented in working towards a follow-up plan. This to make sure that what you have heard and experienced during the event, becomes meaningful in your daily work, for your own organisation.

For whom?

Practitioners and policy officers who are involved in working with faith based partner organisations in the South. The event is for PSO member organisations and for non-PSO members.
