Jury's explanation

During the question and answer session WPF talks more about the ideas for scaling up their experience by producing a counselling tool. Furthermore, they will facilitate this tool so that it can be tailor made to fit the needs of other organisations. WPF is also asked to explain more about the process of behavioural change. How to make sure that patients do not fall back in their old behaviour? WPF acknowledges the risk of fallback. That is why they are working on a more structural support system.

Importance

They also acknowledge the importance of M&E. The jury specifically asks about the capacity development issue. The innovation implies serious culture and attitude change of the partner organisation.

WPF explains that there were different strategies for the two organisations. The partner in Indonesia was more familiar in working with men, for the partner in South Africa this was entirely new. The counsellors are women and most of them have been abused in the past. Furthermore, the organisation is a feminist organisation which made it also more difficult to address the needs of men in an abusive relationship. Now, the counselling program for men has become the most popular program because all counsellors acknowledge that it makes them better professionals, since they better understand the relationship.

Programmes

Finally the jury checks the linkages with existing programmes in Cape Town. WPF explains that they did a situational analysis and found out that most of the existing activities were around awareness raising. With the new approach, linkages to these activities have been made and new alliances have evolved. The role of WPF in the project is to provide financial and technical support. WPF also guides the partners in planning their intervention using the method of Intervention Mapping. Furthermore, it is ensured that there is sufficient attention for sexuality in the counselling. Another important role of WPF is to facilitate the exchange process of the partners; through this process of exchange and learning organisational change gets the chance to materialise.
